So by now I know majority of you (like myself) observed the constant racial tension within the borders of the countries you all reside in. (Unless deliberate oblivion takes place) But the question that pops to mind for me: “is the redundancy of us duplicating our predecessor’s actions plain to see?” Let’s go back shall we…

Slavery was abolished 1865, which wasn’t because slavery was inhumane but to usher in capitalism. Now that war (the Civil War) if you breakdown its name means the fight over fellow citizens courtesies and politeness upon one another. So it’s implied by the abolishment of slavery that said civility was manifested but the latter is true. In fact, a half a decade after said “abolishment” the first legislative gesture was made rendering racial segregation in schools in the state of Virginia. This marked the start of Jim Crow. Jim Crow was created in the 1880’s and ended in the 1950’s. I’m not going elaborate the chronological order of events & their purpose but will say these laws hindered freed people not aid like a government should. The 1950’s sparked an altered way of think for freed people. Hence the Civil Rights movement was spawned, since the rights of the Civil War were nonexistent.

Civil Rights Movement was exactly what the Civil War was… to set the record straight on civility in our country. The second act of redundancy if you ask me. Now there were acts put in place by our government beginning as early as 1866 to 1991 that granted civil rights. But as of late, that’s proven to be false. Which leads me to the whole point of this blog, why we expect a different result while executing the same actions of those before us? It seems in today’s culture our have become satisfied with verbal activism. Video vigilance has warranted minimal gain. Those with the resources has done minimal as well. For instance Akon can give power to his people but Lebron gives a school open to everyone perpetuating the same distorted curriculum if not worst than already existing. I think it was a good gesture but not worthy of my kudos and high praise. Have we become a people comfortable redundant activism? We definitely need to do better and do more than just spread knowledge, debate and practice the same thing those before us done. Our activism should be an evolution of our ancestors efforts not their replica. Until we meet again family: ✌🏿&❤️.
